Tired of iced tea that starts too strong and ends too weak? The secret to making great iced tea at home is learning HOW TO COLD BREW TEA!
Here is how to cold brew tea:
- Use high quality loose leaf teas like the ones that are in our personalized tea subscriptions if you can, but even less great teas are better cold brewed!
- Use a little more tea than you would use to brew hot tea, about a tablespoon of tea per cup of water. You can always add more water or ice later if you think the tea is too strong. It is much harder to make weak tea stronger.
- Cover and refrigerate overnight. Covering is important so the tea doesn’t taste like your fridge. If you are in a hurry you can cold brew for a shorter time if you increase the ratio of tea to water.
- Discard tea bags if you used them (we use the drawstring bags that come with our subscriptions) or filter out the tea if you didn’t.
- Serve the tea as it is, or add mint, lemon, honey, or sugar if you prefer. Remember that since the tea is already cold you don’t need ice except to keep it cool longer, so much less than if the tea is warmer or even hot to begin with.
