The answers to our most frequently asked Mother’s Day tea gift questions

When checking out a gift, select the date you want the gift notification to be sent (or leave empty for immediate notification).

Your gift recipients get a gift notification email with your gift message on your selected date.
They use the gift code from the email to redeem the gift, and enter their own shipping address and preferences.
Their initial tea shipment is personalized based on their preferences.
Future shipments are personalized based on preferences and tea ratings.

Some of our customers like to print a card that they can give in person, or send on their own.
You can print this card as an image, a PDF file, or even a black and white PDF file.
Then all you have to do is enter the number of teas you are giving them, and the code that is in your confirmation email.
Oh, and don’t forget to buy the actual gift to get the code!

All of our teas come in 2 oz bags, and brew 20-30 cups of tea depending on personal preference for each tea.
All of our shipments are of 4 or 6 teas, which is 8 or 12 oz, which on average is 100 or 150 cups of tea.
Most other subscriptions we know offer 15-20 cups per shipment, one is close to 40 cups.
We spend less on shipping and more on tea!

The first thing we ask all new subscribers and gift recipients for is their caffeine preference.
The options are all caffeine, mostly caffeine, 50/50, mostly caffeine free, or all caffeine free.
Caffeine preferences, like all the other preferences, can be updated at any time.

We ship internationally. We offer the only personalized International Tea Subscriptions and International Tea Gifts on the market.
The prices are only slightly higher to cover the extra shipping cost.
If someone with a regular domestic subscription or gift has an international address, we adjust shipments to cover the extra cost.

You can use your own email address as the recipient email. Then you can tell them about their gift in person, or include the code in a handwritten note, or whatever method you prefer.
When the gift is redeemed it will be associated with the email address it is redeemed with.
If you don’t want them to get emails at all, you can redeem the gift using your own email address.

When you give a tea gift, your confirmation email includes the gift code. If you want to redeem the gift for your recipient, you can enter the code at freeyourtea.com/redeem. If you are already logged in, or enter your own email address when redeeming, the gift will be associated with your email address. If you are not logged in, and enter their email address, the gift will be associated with that email address.
The email address used to redeem the gift will get the emails about preferences, and shipping notifications.

If you want to set a gift recipient’s preferences for caffeine and tea types etc. for them, you can do that by submitting initial preferences using the email that will or has been used to redeem the gift. This will trigger an email with an invitation to submit more detailed preferences, so you should wait to do this if they have not yet received their gift notification.

You do not, the shipping address is added when the gift is redeemed.
If you WANT TO give a gift that delivers to someone’s mailing address without them having to do anything you can either give a gift to yourself and redeem it with their shipping name and address, or get a regular non-gift subscription using their name and address for shipping. Some customers do this for recipients they know to be unable or unwilling to deal with emails and websites.

New subscribers are asked to submit preferences for tea types, caffeine, and personalization levels before the initial shipment.
Unless you only want variety, you are invited to submit more detailed preferences about 30 different flavors, tea types, and ingredients.
After getting your first teas you are asked to rate each tea from 1-5 stars, and tell us if you want to receive the tea again in the future or not.
We personalize your tea based on all the preferences and tea ratings we have in our database.

Of Course! “Just send me a variety of tea” is an option in the preferences, and also what we do if preferences are not submitted.

Yes, all subscribers can order specific teas. You can do it as part of your tea rating, or just contact us. Specific teas can replace upcoming personalized teas, or be added as additional teas and/or shipments.

You can cancel at any time, and we will not charge you again. You can also pause shipments, for example when traveling, or if you just have too much tea right now. You can login and do this yourself, or you can contact us to have us do it for you.

We ship to new subscribers, who submit their initial preferences by the 15th of the month, that month.
If after the 15th of the month it will most likely not be until next month.
There is always a shipping notification email with tracking info.
Following bimonthly shipments are scheduled for January, March, May, July, September, and November.
Following quarterly shipments are scheduled for January, April, July, and October.

We have made it VERY easy to give gifts to big and small groups of people. You can do it one by one on the tea gifts page, quickly add multiple recipients through our group gift form, or even share a list of recipients with us. You can pay with cards, through your bank, or send us a check if you prefer. Let us know what you are thinking, and we’ll help you make it happen!

What is included in my subscription?
You will receive 4-6 2 oz bags of personalized tea bimonthly, or quarterly, depending on your subscription.
How are you choosing my teas?
We pride ourselves on our personalization. We tailor teas to your taste based on our database of tea preferences and ratings that show us which teas people with similar preferences and ratings as yours are most likely to love.

When do I get my tea?
We personalize teas using data submitted by the 15th of each month, and start shipping within a week of the 15th.
Contact us if you want to delay shipment, or make other changes.
How much is shipping?
Shipping is free to any U.S. address. International shipping is included in the international subscriptions.

How do I steep my tea?
All of our teas come with instructions on how to best prepare them. Some teas require hotter temperatures or longer steeping times. Generally, we recommend one teaspoon of tea per teacup of water. You may wish to adjust accordingly based on the size of the leaf and desired strength & caffeine level.
Can I request specific teas?
As a subscriber you can always request any tea you’ve had from us. Every time you rate a tea you also tell us if you want that tea again at some point, as soon as possible, or every month in addition to new tea.

How are your teas sourced?
We source our teas from tea gardens all over the world including China, India, and Nepal, some directly from country of origin, others through wholesalers. We pride ourselves in our wide range of teas from a wide range of places.

What is your return policy?
We can’t accept any returns of tea. If for any reason you are unhappy with the tea you receive, please let us know so we can make things better.

What if I want to pause or cancel my subscription?
We can pause, adjust or cancel your subscription. Contact us and we’ll take care of it.
When does my subscription renew?
Recurring subscriptions renew on the same day of the month as the initial order.

How will my gift recipient know I sent them a gift?
When you buy a gift subscription you’ll be asked to enter the name and email address of the recipient, as well as a gift message and the date you want them to be notified. We will email them on that date with your message and everything they need to know to start getting teas tailored to their taste.
Does the gift subscription renew?
No. Only non-gift subscriptions renew. Before a gift subscription expires we will ask you if you want to extend it. That is it.
