A majority of these antioxidants are cachetin polyphenols, one of the most potent antioxidants found in plants. Cachetins have been found to protect against many forms of cancer, prevent heart disease, and lower cholesterol counts. The most prominent cachetin found in matcha is epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG). Don’t be intimidated by the big word, it’s just a fancy way to say major health booster. The concentration of EGCGs in matcha is approximately five times the amount found in traditional green teas.
Matcha tea also provides strong detoxification from its high count of chlorophyll, offering five times the amount of chlorophyll than a regular cup of green tea. The antioxidants found in chlorophyll assist the immune system in forming strong molecular bonds with chemicals that cause oxidative diseases such as liver damage and blood cell complications. These bonds help the immune system to keep these chemicals in check and reduce their effects.
